Published Oct 21, 2015Earlier this year, Antony Hegarty announced plans to release a new electronic album under the name ANOHNI. Today, the performer has given some brief updates on the new release.
Called HOPELESSNESS, the album was produced by Hegarty in collaboration with Hudson Mohawke and Oneohtrix Point Never. As you might expect from those credits, it's not going to be the neoclassical Antony and the Johnsons style music we might expect.
Stereogum points to an interview Hegarty recently did with a fan forum, where the performer opened up about HOPELESSNESS.
"The record is as different as could be from my previous work," Antony said. "I am not sure that many of you who prefer the early chamber music style will enjoy it! It is a dance / experimental electronic record with quite a dark thematic undertow. It is an album I felt very compelled to produce. It will be released next spring and I will be working on aspect of that for the year of 2016."
According to Hegarty, the album will be accompanied by "everal quite special videos, all of which we are working on now, and which I am quite excited about."
Further, the album will come with a strange live show. "The presentation will be very unconventional and I'll probably raise a few eyebrows. I want to explore my voice as separated from my body, and employ avatars to represent my body. But this will get more concrete as we develop and rehearse over the coming months."
Stay tuned for more information on HOPELESSNESS as it becomes available.
