Published Sep 08, 2017Shining a light on King Crimson's classic period, a new box set capturing the prog-rock greats early '70s material is heading our way. Dubbed Sailors' Tales, the sprawling set will feature a whopping 27 discs, including piles of previously unreleased material and extras.
Skipping King Crimson's classic 1969 debut In the Court of the Crimson King, the box set will begin with the following year's In the Wake of Poseidon, as well as 1970's Lizard and 1971's Islands. All three come as new "Steven Wilson & Robert Fripp stereo mixes," and include additional bonus tracks.
The set then piles on a massive amount of live material, including an expanded version of 1972 concert set Earthbound, various other unreleased live recordings, band auditions and extra studio tracks. It all amounts to 21 CDs in total.
Along with all that, Sailors' Tales comes with four Blu-rays and two DVDs, with each featuring a selection of live shows and some hi-res audio of the box set's CD material.
It's all being packaged up in a big 12-inch box, complete with "booklet, memorabilia, a further downloadable concert, new sleeve-notes by Sid Smith, Jakko Jakszyk & David Singleton."
Sailors' Tales is due out on November 3. You can learn more about the set, as well as pre-order it, here.
