It's been three days since the game, and Twitter is still losing its mind over the thong-bearing fashion moment.
The outfit choice has sparked plenty of debate — some have been calling the ass-less dress inappropriate for a family-friendly event like a sports game, while others claim that if Lizzo was a smaller size she wouldn't be taking so much heat for the fashion choice.
This is not about Lizzo being fat, twerking, or hating on her. This is about her seeking attention, coming into an arena with kids and family dressed inappropriately. I haven't seen RiRi or others do this. Her thong was showing before the twerk then she proceeds to make it worse.— Chad (@16_Titles) December 9, 2019
Lizzo has disrupted a whole planet by showing her ass. I hope to one day wield that kind of power.— Professor Healing (@sivgreyson) December 11, 2019
so lizzo showed up to the lakers game last night wearing a thong dress, AND I'M NOT MAD ABOUT IT! pic.twitter.com/9gT3Xb5uoh— hautelemess (@hautelemess) December 9, 2019
People acting like they hate Lizzo because she's "annoying" for going to the lakers game with her ass out, but if one of these conventionally hot skinny rapper girls did it, no one would care that much 🥴🥴🥴 just say y'all hate fat people and go— BadBennyG (@BadBennyG) December 10, 2019
"Lizzo is vulgar for showing so much skin at a Lakers game! children were there!"— stevie nicks is gay (@golden__ally) December 9, 2019
Meanwhile thin and conventionally attractive Laker girls literally dress like this at games
Seems like you're just mad that a fat girl doesn't hate her body, Brad :/ pic.twitter.com/loxrRGzmWL
If I had to watch Miley Cyrus try to twerk her bony ass on Robin Thicke, I SURE THE FUCK can stomach watching a real thick woman like @lizzo do it at a Lakers game.— 𝐂𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐭𝐧𝐞𝐲𝐋𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐬🖤 (@PettyLoveless) December 9, 2019
How about y'all just stay mad, because we're out here wearing what the fuck we want in 2020, no matter what size.
and no - I don't care about what lizzo wore to a basketball game. Y'all should see how much the laker girls wear and then get back to me about your problems with "revealing" clothing.— "Celia" (@_celia_bedelia_) December 10, 2019
If you have to preface your criticism of Lizzo with, "it's not because she's fat and Black," chances are you feel small type of way about fat Black women. And I'mma just leave it there.— Jasmyn (@JasmynBeKnowing) December 9, 2019
Lizzo has since responded to the controversy multiple times on social media.
On Twitter, Lizzo shared footage of Rihanna wearing a sheer dress that revealed her breasts and backside, calling it "my inspiration." Riri wore the outfit to the 2014 CFDA Fashion Awards and was praised for it.

Lizzo followed up on Instagram, informing her followers that she isn't letting the haters and critics get her down. She posted a very soothing inspirational video, reminding everyone that they are blessed and that negativity has no space in her life.
"Negative criticism has no stake in my life, no control over my life, over my emotions. I'm the happiest I've ever been. I'm surrounded by love," she said via an Instagram live video. "And I just wanna spread that love and also spread these cheeks."
Well, after a week of everybody talking about her butt on Twitter, Lizzo certainly has earned her title of TIME's "Entertainer of the Year."
See where this year's breakthrough album Cuz I Love You landed on Exclaim!'s 10 Best Soul, Funk and World Albums of 2019.
