Published Jul 23, 2015Former White Lung touring bassist Hether Fortune recently put the focus back onto her own Wax Idols project, and has just announced that a third full-length album release is on the horizon. The post-punk group's American Tragic will be their first for former Thursday frontman Geoff Rickly's Collect Records, and it touches down October 16.
Fortune revealed the album plans today over Facebook, with the album's "Lonely You" having been premiered through FADER.
A press release notes that the nine-song record is "deeply personal," reflecting, in part, a divorce Fortune went through in 2014. While heavy, Wax Idols' latest long player apparently isn't completely steeped in heartbreak.
"Divorce is a part of this record, yes, but this is not an entirely sad album," Fortune explained in a statement. "The whole spectrum of grief is represented here — shock, pain, anger, loneliness, and then finding a way to work through all of that and not only survive, but thrive. That's what I was going through. I was trying to save myself."
Fortune wrote and performed the bulk of American Tragic, but Rachel Travers performed all the drums. The album, Wax Idols' first since 2013's Slumberland-released Discipline & Desire, was co-produced by Fortune and Monte Vallier (Weekend, Mark Eitzel, The Soft Moon, Vaniish).
