Dave Grohl and his mother Virginia Hanlon Grohl chronicle the special bond between musicians and their moms in their new series From Cradle to Stage — which includes cracking cold ones with their child's famous friends.

Appearing as a co-host on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon yesterday (May 24), Grohl revealed that after he introduced his mother to his touring lifestyle following her long teaching career, she had some cheers and beers with Green Day.

"My mother was a public school teacher for 30 years, and when she retired, I was like, 'Mom, don't do that cruise ship thing,'" Grohl told Fallon. "I was like, 'I've got a cruise ship — it's a tour bus! Let's go!' And she started going on tour with me.

"I gave her a laminate and she would just go and hang out, and I'd be onstage playing and then get offstage and be like, 'Where's my mom?!' and she'd be drinking beers with Green Day upstairs and hanging out — she's very cool!"

Grohl said that these experiences would soon lead her to find community of her own.

"When she was on tour she was like, 'Where's all the other moms?' So she went to go find these mothers to interview them and talk to them about what it's like to raise a musician."

That led Virginia Hanlon Grohl to publish From Cradle to Stage: Stories from the Mothers Who Rocked and Raised Rock Stars in 2017. The book is the basis for the pair's six-part Paramount+ series, which will feature guests such as Pharrell, Miranda Lambert, Brandi Carlile, Rush's Geddy Lee and more.
