Foo Fighters Fans Are Pissed About the Mandatory Vaccine Requirement for Their NYC Show
The band are set to play for fully vaccinated fans at Madison Square Garden later this month
Dave Grohl and co., as well as the venue itself, have stipulated that only fully vaccinated fans will be able to attend the massive concert on June 20. After all, that's what is required to now host such an event in New York.
"Guests must have proof of full COVID-19 vaccination - Final Dose 14 Days Before Event," the Ticketmaster event page reads. "Madison Square Garden is complying with New York State mandates that require all guests to be fully vaccinated in such circumstances."
Madison Square Garden's list of exemptions to the rule on its COVID-19 safety policy page only apply to children under the age of 16; unvaccinated kids are allowed to attend events at the venue under its current regulations, but they must provide proof of a negative antigen or PCR COVID-19 test. Notably, individuals with medical exemptions are not included in the venue's list.
As you could expect, Twitter users have had mixed feelings about the rules, with reactions ranging from vaccinated fans celebrating the clause to anti-vax conspiracy theorists criticizing the band for performing at a venue with any vaccine requirements. Some angry fans have even gone as far as calling on their fellow Foo followers to "bin" the band's albums while blasting the rule as a form of "medical apartheid."
If the controversy is proof of anything at all, it's that it may still be too early to host events of this capacity.
Nevertheless, tickets for the Foo Fighters concert go on sale tomorrow (June 11) at 10 a.m. ET.

Over 2k people in the queue. How can msg require vaccines. That's discrimination when some people may not be able@to get a vaccine— Rena (@Rena88160317) June 8, 2021
Foo Fighters, a band I've long admired, just held a concert for the jabbed only.— La Haine (@LloydyLloyd6) June 9, 2021
That's every album & play list with them on, consigned to the bin.
Foo Fighters have said they're going to play a gig but only for those who have been vaccinated. I genuinely don't see a problem with this, and double bonus points for pissing off the anti-vax morons.— Steve McHugh (@StevejMchugh) June 10, 2021
I'll never buy another ticket to a @foofighters concert.— Josh Denny (@JoshDenny) June 9, 2021
Not all people that choose to NOT vaccinate are conspiracy theorists. Some people, very close to me, have autoimmune conditions that make the vaccine a high risk proposition.
"Vaccine mandatory" is 2021's "whites only." https://t.co/LDuwzw140V
I love the foo fighters but I still won't get the god damn vaccine https://t.co/Wb7AfYgPwt— Quest (@_Quest_) June 9, 2021
Saw that Foo Fighters were trending, I thought something bad may have happened, but its just them doing a gig for vaccinated people (which btw top marks for)— Aj's arcana is tweeting shit (@AJ_i_Think) June 10, 2021
And then seeing all the anti-vaxers spewing shit underneath 🤣
@foofighters will be playing a full capacity concert at MSG on June 20th and attendees must be fully vaccinated. I'm totally on board with requiring vacations, a big thumbs up to my favorite band for doing this.— Shawn W (@BiscuitsDad30) June 9, 2021
