Jack Black Is Playing Claptrap in the 'Borderlands' Movie
Jack Black is the latest add to Eli Roth's film adaptation of Borderlands, with news arriving that he'll be playing the role of the robot Claptrap.

Of course, for those familiar with the video game, Jack Black couldn't be better as Claptrap — after all, they are both total smart asses. And just to be clear, Black will be voicing the character and not fitting into some sort of robot suit.

"I am so excited to reunite with Jack, this time in the recording booth," Roth said in a statement. "Claptrap is the funniest character in the game, and Jack is perfect to bring him to the big screen."

The addition of Black follows the recent news that Kevin Hart would be joining Borderlands alongside Cate Blanchett. As previously reported, the Borderlands adaptation will be produced by Erik Feig, Avi and Ari Arad, while Chernobyl's Craig Mazin will write the screenplay. The film will be executive produced by Gearbox founder Randy Pitchford and Strauss Zelnick, chairman and CEO of Take-Two Interactive.

The Borderlands film will follow the events of the video game series' 2009 debut and set in a distant future where four "Vault Hunters" battle corporations and military forces in search of alien technologies on planet Pandora.

As of yet, a release date for the film has not been revealed.
