Kylie Minogue "Where the Wild Roses Grow" (ft. Nick Cave)
Published Oct 26, 2012Back in 1995, Down Under pop star Kylie Minogue teamed up with fellow Aussie Nick Cave to deliver the tender and tragic murder ballad "Where the Wild Roses Grow," one of many highlights on Cave's appropriately titled Bad Seeds set Murder Ballads. All these years later, the pair have reunited for another crack at the tale of Elisa Day.
While the original featured some lush orchestration, the redux, which is included on Minogue's newly released The Abbey Road Sessions collection, finds the first half of the song scaling things down, existing solely on acoustic guitar plucks and shushed vocals. Drums and piano are ushered in, but the song still keeps things sparse.
Despite the sonic difference, you still learn that it's never a good sign when your lover takes you down to the water armed with a skull-cracking rock. Nevertheless, "Where the Wild Roses Grow" remains just as lovely almost 20 years later. Check it out below.
