Lisa Bozikovic Fixed, St. John's NF, April 19
Published Apr 19, 2013It turns out that Lisa Bozikovic has many connections to Newfoundland that have inspired her and she paid tribute to this rare bond at her surprise pop-up show at a coffee house called Fixed. She began her set with "The Letting Go," the first song she ever wrote, with back-up vocalists on either side, one playing an upright bass. Bozikovic then explained that she was in Newfoundland years ago when she learned that her mother had suddenly passed away. She played "No Denial," a song dedicated to her and later played "Grey Sky," which she'd actually written on that same, fateful trip to St. John's. Her music is always wrought with a deep emotional weight and she exhibits a kind of fragile confidence as a performer. She's dealt with a lot of adversity and it comes through in her being, as all could see at Fixed on this grim, rainy Newfoundland afternoon.
